SPCA Pet Pics with Santa

Taking care of voiceless animals was what SPCA’s Pet Pics with Santa was all about. This event took place help fundraise money for the animals at The Brantford County SPCA. There were many different ways to fundraise for these wonderful animals. This took place that the Antler Service incorporated, from Saturday Nov 14, 2009 to Sunday Nov 15, 2009.

For the Christmas Caring Campaign they were selling handmade ornaments that were donated by Tamara Clark. Tamara loves animals and has always been very caring towards them. Also has another form of fundraising is the wooden stands holding bags with different animals pictures on them. These red stands are at any participating store. On the front of the bags is a picture of an animal and the wish list for the SPCA. One, who wishes to take place, takes a bag and fills it with contents from the wish list. Once the bag is full it is brought back to the store or the humane society. There is now a Christmas tree being put up at the shelter for all of the bags to go underneath. Doing this with your family is a great way to get everyone involved and teach your children moral values. This is a very helpful way to give back to the community.

There were plenty of volunteers at the event young and old. One girl Jenna Padfield has been volunteering with the SPCA for a couple years now. Her aunt used to be very involved in the SPCA and got Jenna to contribute her time as well. Her aunt can no longer participate in these events, so Jenna does this for her.

Giving back to the community is what SPCA is all about. Finding homes for the voiceless animals that without the help of the community would parish. “I have supported the SPCA for many years and I have a dog of my own, I am now on my fourth year. I think it is a good way to give back to my community and help.” Robert Batz. Robert and his wife had brought in their dog to get its picture taken with Santa.

The recession not only affects people, humane societies are not being able to find homes for the animals like previous years. Because of this they now have a bargain price for cats. These animals are all spade. They would love to have as many animals as possible in a home for the holidays. Every life is a precious one, we have to take control and help those who need it.

Money Spending Tips

Spending too much money is a problem for most people. Here are a few helpful tips for keeping some of your money in the bank. This website can help you understand how to spend your money more wisely and how you can cut back your spending.

http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/wise-spending.html

Make a budget for yourself

o Each week set aside a certain amount of money that you will use, and try not to go over that amount. If you go under put the rest of the money aside. At the end of the month you will have the left over amount to buy a new top or even go towards paying surprise expenses.

Pay the most important first

o Prioritize your spending, ask yourself if you really need that or is it just a want?

o Pay off everything that is a must before you spend any money on little wants. For example pay your credit card bill before you go out and use it more.

Plan for any emergences

o Life comes at you fast so make sure you have a portion of money set aside for any emergency.

Media and Health Issues

The media portrays girls as always being beautiful, skinny people. This is not realistic. Every girl is different; everyone has a different ideal body weight for themselves. Stop paying attention to the tabloids and magazine covers and see a nutritionist. He or she can tell you what a proper weight for your body should be. They can give you useful tips on staying healthy, and even help you make an eating plan. You can hire a personal trainer or simply do daily task differently, like walking rather than driving. If you do not have access to a nutritionist you can simply eat healthier. If there is a lot of colour on your plate, for example lots of vegetables and fruits then you know it is better for you. There are plenty of books out there as well. Reading one and following it can help, and it is much easier than just going by exercising and healthy eating. They can tell you different exercises to do for you body and what will work and what wont. Do not let the media influence the way you look and feel.

A great website to look at is the following:

This gives you the information you need about the media and how it is influencing girls.

Eating Healthy and Staying Fit for Christmas

As the Christmas season approaches so do the temptations of eating sweets and gaining unwanted pounds. There are many ways you can stop yourself from gaining those few extra pounds, so you fit into that cute black dress for New Years Eve.

Firstly, once you have reached that target weight of yours for the holiday season, don’t stop monitoring your weight. It takes just as much work to maintain that healthy weight as it did to lose all the previous weight.

Always be working out. Exercise is one of the main keys to staying in a good physical shape and healthy. Over the season if you have increased your intake of food maybe do some extra crunches, or add some more time to your run. You do not have to overdo it, but just make up for the extra calories you are taking in.

Find a good cook book. Finding a cook book that can help you stay healthy while in the holiday season is very important. When in a book store go to the cooking section and look for a book that has recipes for the same treats you love, just healthier. You can not only find new ways to make old favourites but you can also find new recipes to add to your family traditions.

Abortion

Induced abortions continue to be most common among women in their 20s. Abortion has always been a very controversial topic. Abortion being a very personal decision has many factors to consider. There are two main drug combinations; these are Methotrexate and Misoprostal, and Mifepristone (RU 486) and Misoprostol. The procedure can be completed up to seven weeks or six days by ultrasound. If the mifepristone and misoprostal blend is available it may be used up to nine weeks after the last period of the female. Some of the pros for abortion are with having it legal this cuts down on unsafe practices of abortion which can kill the mother as well. The women is the one who will be going through the pregnancy, the labor and getting to know the child, she knows what will be best for herself better than anyone else. There are cons of getting an abortion because of the psychological effects it can have on the women, abortion is final, and they will never get to know the child. By the twenty first day of conception an embryo is considered a human with a heartbeat.

Abortion is a huge decision and one that should not be made without the proper thought and research going into it. Go to the following site to get more information on the topic.

Teen Mothers

There are more than 80% of teens that are pregnant. Whether this is unintentional or unintended it happened. There have been many new forms of contraceptives developed to prevent pregnancy from occurring. For example there are birth control pills and condoms. When you think of a teenager who is a mother it is usually associated with a lower income. Eighty percent of teen mothers have to rely on welfare at some point in their life. Unfortunately teenage mothers have a greater dropout rate from school. Only about one-third of teen mothers achieve a high school diploma. Teenage pregnancies are linked with enlarged rates of alcohol and substance abuse, poor education level, and reduced earning possibilities in teen fathers. The annual cost of teen pregnancies in the United State is estimated to be about $7 billion from lost tax revenues, public assistance, child health care, foster care, and involvement with the criminal justice system. The following are early signs of pregnancy, if you have any of these symptoms contacts your health care professional.

• Abdominal bloating

• Breast sensitivity (e.g., tenderness, swelling)

• Fatigue

• Food cravings or aversions

• Frequent urination

• Light bleeding or spotting (called implantation bleeding)

• Missed menstrual period

• Nausea or queasiness

Date Rape

Date rape is a very serious and scary subject. Half of the victims who are raped know their attacker. Date rape is when sex is forces upon a partner in a relationship. This is a sexual act preformed against the other persons will. Rape has nothing to do with love and should not be confused with it. The act can be of aggression and violence but also can merely be when one partner refuses it. When being in a relationship, one never should owe the other partner sex. There are "date rape" drugs like rohypnol ("roofies"), gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and ketamine. The drugs can without difficulty be mixed in drinks to make a target black out and forget what had happened. This is not only affecting girls but it also can affect guys. Those who have been given these drugs have reported feeling paralyzed, having blurred vision, and lack of memory. If these drugs are being mixed with alcohol it can become a deadly mixture. A good way to prevent this situation is by not staying in secluded areas or spending time alone with people who do not make you feel comfortable or who make you feel uneasy. The best way to stay safe is by knowing what you want and by always being aware and in control of yourself. Check out this website to help you understand date rape more and help prevent this from ever happening to you or a loved one.

Welcome Everyone!

I’m Megs, and welcome to Pearls of Wisdom. In my blog I will be posting articles I have written about different controversial topics which all have to do with girls. I am a first year student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Brantford Ontario, majoring in journalism. Feminine has always been a word that describes me. As a young girl living in Alberta Canada I took horseback riding and ballet lessons. I was the little girl who dreamed of her wedding day and flipped through the bridal magazines. I grew up always wanting the most expensive, extravagant items. It is an exciting part of my life now because I can start living my life to the fullest, and make what I really desire in the world happen. Being at an age where I can start to live out and accomplish my dreams, I want to help girls in any way that I can. I would love to work for a magazine company that deals with girl issues. I hope my blog is of interest to you and you find it very informative.
